AMCHAMDR celebrates Ordinary General Assembly for 2023 and elects new members of the Board of Directors

During the process, AMCHAMDR announced the new members of the Board of Directors who were elected in the voting process, revealed in the Ordinary General Assembly held on April 25, 2023. In the Assembly, William Malamud was ratified as executive vice president, who holds the position since 1998


SANTO DOMINGO.-  The American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR for its acronym in English) announced the results of the votes carried out for the election of its new Board of Directors within the framework of the Ordinary General Assembly held this Tuesday, April 25.

The Executive Committee of the institution will be chaired by Edwin de los Santos, who is president of AES Dominicana; Francesca Rainireri, from Grupo Punta Cana and María Waleska Álvarez, from NAP del Caribe will be the vice presidents; while Steven Puig, from Banco BHD; will act as Treasurer; and Eduardo Cruz, from Grupo Humano, will assume the position of Secretary.

Elected as associate members, arranged alphabetically by company, were José A. Álvarez, managing partner of Álvarez y Sánchez; Lucile Houellemont, president of Dominican Watchman; Alexander Schad, CEO of Frederic Schad; Ligia Bonetti, President of the Grupo SID and María Esther Valiente, Director of Corporate Affairs at Valiente Fernández.

With the inauguration of this new board of directors, Mr. Roberto Herrera will occupy the position of immediate past president of the institution. In the Assembly, William Malamud was ratified as executive vice president, who has held the position since 1998

As link or US-Linked members and arranged alphabetically by company, Danilo Ginebra, CEO of Altice Dominicana; Juana Barceló, president of Barrick Pueblo Viejo; Juan Roberto Amell, Director of Corporate Affairs at Bepensa, Juan O. Velázquez, Vice President and Administrator of Central Romana Corporation; Carlos José Martí, president of Grupo Martí; Fernando Villanueva, President of Viamar S.A. and Blanca Sofía Antor, general manager of VISA in the Dominican Republic.

In another order, Franchesca Rainieri, treasurer of the institution, presented the Financial Statements of the American Chamber of Commerce corresponding to 2022.

Likewise, during the Assembly, the executive vice president of AMCHAMDR, William Malamud, who has held the position since 1998, was ratified. Malamud presented the entity's accountability in 2022 and the work plan for 2023.

The elected members had to meet the requirements established by the American Chamber of Commerce to be candidates for its Board of Directors. Among these parameters, they merited being active members of AMCHAMDR, with more than 10 years of professional experience, and being high-level executives in the companies they work for. In the same way, they must not have paid public positions, be in full exercise of their civil rights, and not be disqualified by law.

According to the AMCHAMDR statutes, the Ordinary General Assembly is the supreme management body of the Chamber. Its powers are non-delegable. Similarly, its acts and resolutions, when adopted in accordance with current legal and statutory provisions, are binding on all members, even those who are absent or dissident.
